Everything You Wanted to Know about Cancer Season
Welcome to the first post in this sun season series. Each new sun season, I will go in-depth on each of the signs of the zodiac so you know which energies to focus on for that season and how best to enhance them in your life.
Intro
My first post is all about Cancer Season. This one is near and dear to me because it’s both my moon sign and south node. There’s also something special about Cancer Season because it begins on the summer solstice every year. I’ve always loved the summer and the water, which are two things Cancer embodies. This season is the time for self-care and looking at your intuition through the lens of your emotions so you can understand how to take care of yourself.
Sometimes people with their sun or moon in Cancer can be labeled as moody, but that really just means they know how to express their emotions, which they have quite a bit of. Trust me, I know. Cancer is ruled by the moon and is a very maternal sign. However, it’s also the sign of the crab; it can be hard to share your emotions with the world. That takes vulnerability and often, we create walls, or shells, around us to protect our soft insides. Cancer Season is about letting down your walls and allowing the world to see the real you. Like the crab, it’s important to know when to shed your skin and begin again.
History of Cancer Constellation
To the naked eye, the Cancer constellation looks like an upside down “Y,” but is actually meant to represent a crab, hence the name “Cancer,” which is latin for “crab.” The constellation is named for the giant crab that attacked Hercules. It was sent by Hera to try and thwart Hercules as he battled Hydra, the water serpent. However, he ended up killing it with his club.

Things to Do During Cancer Season
Cancer is the sign of the home. This season is a great time to make sure your home is what you want—maybe it’s the time to do some redecorating or house hunting.
If you have access to any body of water, Cancer Season is the time to spend in it or near it. Much like the moon, the ocean has a feminine energy: it’s strong, but ebbs and flows to its own rhythm, going through cycles and variations throughout the day. Now is a great time to understand your own cycles. Is now the time for you to go inside yourself and take alone time to make some headway on your inner struggles. If you, like me, live in a landlocked state, you can create your own connection to water by taking baths. Cancer Season is THE bath season of the year. It’s not always enticing to take baths in the summer, but I like to treat myself to morning or evening baths when the air is cool. You can add some Epsom salts mixed with lavender, chamomile, or jasmine essential oils and light some candles.
Journaling is another great way to understand what your emotions are trying to tell you. Journaling while in the bath is even better, especially if you have one of those boards you can place on your tub as a writing surface. Perhaps you can even add some wine or chocolate to the table.
